Application for summer term 2025
For the summer term starting in April, the application platform will be open from December 2nd to January 15th, 2025.
Requirements for admission
Requirements for admission to the Master's study program in Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine are defined in the admission regulations (German) as follows (see here non-binding version in English):
Applicants with non-German BSc degree:
- Study program: You have completed a BSc program in Biochemistry or similar* AND your diploma/grades have been pre-reviewed and transferred to the German grading scale by uni-assist (takes 6-8 weeks). You therefore have a VPD to be uploaded.
- Grade: Your VPD grade is at least 2.5
- Main emphasis of study: At least 36 of 180 ECTS have been achieved in basic or advanced biochemical courses - mainly containing practical work -, laboratory trainings or the bachelor thesis
- English: You can proof that your BSc program was taught in English OR you have a TOEFL (Internet-based 93), IELTS (average 6,5 - each single component 6,0), Cambridge qualifications (175), TOEIC (460-425-175) certificate (minimum score in brackets)
Applicants with German BSc degree:
- Study program: You have completed a BSc program in Biochemistry or similar* (if not yet completed please see below**)
- Grade: Your final grade is at least 2.5
- Main emphasis of study: At least 36 of 180 ECTS have been achieved in basic or advanced biochemical courses, laboratory trainings or the bachelor thesis
- English: You either have a German Abitur incl. 6 years of English OR you can proof that your BSc program was taught in English OR you have a TOEFL (Internet-based 93), IELTS (average 6,5 - each single component 6,0), Cambridge qualifications (175), TOEIC (460-425-175) certificate (minimum score in brackets)
*BSc in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical programs, Microbiology or other fields of Life Sciences are considered as “similar to Biochemistry”.
Applicants holding a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy, (Industrial) Biotechnology, Chemical or Biological Engineering will not be considered unless additional qualification in Biochemistry is provided.
In general, applicants will not be considered who hold a MSc degree in Biochemistry, Biological Science, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Medicine or Microbiology.
**If you have not completed your Bachelor's study program by the time of application for the Master's program you have to provide proof that at least 80% of the total credit points have been obtained successfully. Please submit a Transcript of Records that indicates a preliminary grade, which is then used for the application procedure. Please note: In the case of admission to the Master's study program, admission is subject to the condition that the last examination in your Bachelor's study program has been completed by 30th September when applying for winter term, and by 31 March when applying for summer term, respectively. Proof of the successful completion of open examinations has to be provided to the Student Application and Registration Office latest when re-registering for the following term (January/July). If these certificates are not provided at all or not provided in time, confirmation for admission will be invalidated.
Application procedure
Applicants with non-German BSc degree:
Register via uni-assist for a preliminary review (VPD). You do not need to select our master, instead go with "All Subject". The procedure takes 6-8 weeks.
Go to KLIPS, change to English (de/en button), follow the applicant account link. Enter your details and upload your documents:
- VPD by uni-assist
- BSc certificate and Transcript of Records (original language and official translation)
- High school diploma (original language and official translation)
- Application form - I, completely filled in (incl. training, lab skills, motivation), also found in KLIPS
- Proof of proficiency in English
- CV (include lab and English skills)

- CV (include lab and English skills)
