Each semester, students can choose from a range of Subject Modules, each running for seven weeks - either in the first or in the second half of the semester. Modules are led by principal investigators and academic staff from the Institute of Biochemistry (UoC), Center of Biochemistry (UCC), Department of Biology, the Medical Faculty and/or research clusters such as CECAD, CMMC, and MPI Biology of Ageing.
Some modules are course-based, with all students working together in the lab individually or in small teams (course setting), while others place single students directly in research groups (group setting). All modules combine lectures, seminars, and hands-on lab work, and include 2–3 assessments—oral and written—as the module examination.
Selection of Subject Modules including setting of priorities is done via KLIPS in March (summer) and August/September (winter), respectively.
